Artist Showcase - Karen Dalecki
Karen was born and raised In New England and has enjoyed a lifetime of loving art. While drawing with a pencil was a favorite childhood pastime, she became more serious about her drawing after she earned her degree in Biology from Westfield State University. However, most of her free time was dedicated to continuing her science education at the Marine Biological Lab, S.U.N.Y and Cornell University.
After settling into a career in medical research, Karen attended evening studio classes on Boston’s South Shore. She studied with artist, professor and author Judith Campbell-Reed, abstract watercolorist Virginia Avery, landscape watercolorist Peter Spataro and marine artist Michael Keane.
The New England coast is depicted in many of her paintings. Wooden boats, especially catboats, lighthouses and barns are the subject of many of her landscapes and seascapes. Karen also paints still-life and abstracts. She travels to capture images on film and more recently digitally. Beginning with a thumbnail sketch, she works into a larger pencil drawing and often finishes the watercolor painting at home in her studio.
Karen is retired from Harvard Medical School and investing her time in her love of art. Now living in Granby, CT with her husband, she can devote her time to sketching and painting which has been a lifelong dream……
